The Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library


CINIBA

 
The Scientific Information Centre and Academic Library (Polish acronym: CINiBA) is a joint project of the University of Silesia and the University of Economics in Katowice. The goal of the project is the construction and opening of a modern scientific library which will meet 21st century standards in terms of rendering available the information necessary for executing programs of studies at both these universities, improving the quality of teaching via increasing the research potential, improving the availability of scientific literature in the region, as well as increasing the role of the University of Silesia and the University of Economics in international scientific relations.

 

   

Project ‘RID’


RID

 
Project ‘RID’ – together with the already implemented project entitled ‘The Scientific Information Centre and University Library’, project ‘RID’ is a part of a plan to create an ultramodern library which would be open, available to public, functional, and which would meet the needs of students, researchers and inhabitants of the region. Apart from providing a wide, public and free access to scientific and specialist literature and belles-lettres, implementation of the project will make it possible to solve numerous problems which information users encounter on a daily basis. University of Silesia Digital Library


We are inviting to University of Silesia Digital Library. Using materials is possible exclusively from computers of the network of libraries of the University.

Library is making available in digital version an academic publications and textbooks which scientists and students often use. The content is systematically supplemented and updated.

   

Silesian Digital Library


Silesian Digital Library

 
Silesian Digital Library was created on 20 July 2006 pursuant to an agreement concluded by the Silesian Library and the University of Silesia. The aim of the Silesian Digital Library is to present on the Internet the cultural heritage of Silesia and its historical and contemporary diversity, as well as to publish the region’s scientific achievements and promote didactic and educational activities.



   

PhD. Data Base


PhD Database

 
PhD. Data Base comprises doctoral dissertations which have been defended at the University of Silesia, and which are stored in the Library of the University of Silesia.

You can search by criteria: author, title, promoter, year, subject. The catalogue doesn't include dissertations of the Faculty of Art and the Faculty of Theology.

Copying doctoral dissertations is forbidden.

Bibliography of University of Silesia

 
Bibliography of the University of Silesia has been created in the Scientific Information Department of the Library of the University of Silesia since the 1970s. Works on its electronic form commenced in 1997 and are carried out in cooperation with specialist libraries.




   

ARTON - Polish Humanistic Literature


Project: ARTON - Polish Humanistic Literature

 
Works geared to creating a database called ARTON - Polish Humanistic Literature commenced in 1998 on the initiative of professor Tadeusz Sławek who at that time was the Rector of the University of Silesia. According to the creators, the base has two goals: searching for bibliographic information and search for citations of representatives of Polish humanities in Polish humanistic literature.

 

 

   

ARIANTA - Polish Scientific and Professional Electronic Journals


Project ARIANTA

 
ARIANTA - Polish Scientific and Professional Electronic Journals. The base contains information and links to approx. 3200 titles of Polish electronic magazines. These are both magazines which offer unlimited access to unabridged texts and magazines which present on their websites only tables of contents and/or abstracts. The base is compiled by employees of the University of Silesia: Ms. Aneta Drabek and Mr. Arkadiusz Pulikowski.

 

   

NUKAT


NUKAT - a union catalogue of Polish academic libraries

 
NUKAT is a union catalogue of Polish academic and research libraries. It is built by means of shared cataloguing, which means that each description of a document is built only once and stored in NUKAT database and downloaded to the local catalogues. There are over 900 librarians from 38 libraries contributing to NUKAT. NUKAT database contains bibliographic records and authority records. Apart from records are entered on a regular basis, NUKAT contains all bibliographic records from the former Union Catalogue of Serials and all authority records from the Union Authority File. The University of the University of Silesia has been cooperating with NUKAT from the very beginning, i.e. since 2002.
Before the creation of NUKAT, we cooperated with the Union Formats and Authority File. The cooperation commenced in 2001, and in the same year a copy of the Union Authority File was uploaded to our server so that it could be used by all Polish Prolib libraries.
