Reference library of the Special Collections Room and doctoral dissertations may be accessed in the General Reading Room during other operating hours of the Library. Readers who are interested in accessing valuable collections and special collections in hours other than the opening hours of the Special Collections Room are asked to consult the librarian and fix a convenient date.
 
Special collections available at the University of Silesia comprise:

  • Manuscripts, including doctoral dissertations subject to the laws of manuscript,
  • Old prints (2nd half of the 15th century – until the year 1800),
  • Iconographic collections, including: prints, engravings, graphics and reproductions of works of art,
  • Cartographic collections, including: maps, plans, atlases ,
  • Rare book manuscripts,
  • Bibliophile collections which are of special importance and value for formal reasons or due to the special content,
  • Audiovisual collections, including: microfilms, audiotapes and videotapes.
     
    The Special Collections Room also offers a reference library for the following disciplines:
  • Bibliology – mainly history of handwritten and printed books,
  • History of art,
  • Cartography
     

Presentations of the most interesting collections of the University of Silesia


Reference collections of the Special Collections Room are arranged in the catalogue according to names and disciplines specified above. This group also includes the catalogue of bibliophile collections. There are separate catalogues for special collections: doctoral dissertations, cartographic collections and audiovisual collections.

 

Important!
Orders for 19 century collections and other which fall within the category of ‘protected collections’ are placed in the Special Collections Room or in the General Reading Room one day in advance.
