General Reading Room and Journals Reading Room

  • The General Reading Room and the Journals Reading Room can be used by anyone who has left his ID to the librarian who is on duty.
    Orders may be placed electronically – using the OPAC catalogue or by filling in a call slip in the reading room.
    Waiting time: 30 minutes.
  • The General Reading Room and the Journals Reading Room has a large collection of guides, encyclopaedias and dictionaries – both Polish and others. It also has a basic collection of books from the following disciplines: law, economics, philosophy, religious studies, history, philology, sociology, culture studies, psychology, pedagogy, natural sciences, as well as Scholarly Works of the University of Silesia.
  • The Reading Room makes available current issues of magazines related to disciplines which are present  at the University of Silesia, except for mathematics and chemistry-related magazines which are made available at the Mathematics and Chemistry Reading Room. Some of the magazines available at the Library of the University of Silesia are currently located in the Library of the Department of Law and Administration, at Bankowa 11b St. The complete list of titles of magazines which are subscribed by the Library is available on the Library’s website.
  • There are 10 computer stations at the Reading Room, from which you can access electronic magazines and databases distributed in the University computer network, as well as Internet sources of information which are essential to studies and scholarly and research work. The Reading Room also offers a scanner and a printer.
  • The readers are obliged to leave their outerwear, as well as briefcases and large bags in the cloakroom. Silence is compulsory in the reading rooms. It is also forbidden to eat and drink, as well as to use mobile phones.

Important!
Orders for 19 century collections and other which fall within the category of ‘protected collections’ are placed in the Special Collections Room or in the General Reading Room one day in advance.
