Digitization of collections

  • The Library of the University of Silesia is launching a new service which consists in providing the readers with digital copies of library materials. We offer scans of magazine articles, selected chapter from books, illustrations, diagrams, maps, etc. for personal use. Anyone interested in reproducing materials needs to comply with the Copyright Act and other relevant acts dated 4 February 1994 (Journal Of Laws 24/94, item 83), including subsequent amendments thereto.
  • It is possible to order black and white or colour digital copies of materials owned by the Library or those brought by way of interlibrary loan.
  • The maximum resolution used for making copies is 600 dpi. The files are saved in the following formats: tiff. or jpg. In order to obtain digital copies, you need to place an order in the place where the collections can be accessed (Reading Rooms, the Special Collections Room or the Information Centre) during their opening hours.
  • The copies can be picked up at the Information Centre during its opening hours and at a date and hour agreed with the librarian. It is there that you pay for the services rendered. In order to make reproductions of rare book manuscripts and valuable special collections, as well as to order large number of copies, you need to make a prepayment of 30% of the value of the order. We do not scan large-format newspapers.
  • Scanning or photographing by oneself is free of charge, whereas the tariff for other services is available here
